Helping Médecins Sans Frontières to predict malaria outbreaks 8 weeks in advance

Malaria kills over 600,000 people each year—most of them children under five. For Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), knowing when outbreaks are likely to surge is critical for sending the right medical support in time. But as climate change disrupts rainfall and temperature patterns, these peaks have become harder to predict—especially in remote areas where delays can be deadly.

MSF and Equal Experts partnered to further develop a machine learning model – also known as the Malaria Anticipation Project tool (MAP) – to forecast malaria transmission using over a decade of outbreak data. By early 2025, the updated MAP tool went live—offering MSF teams an AI-powered dashboard to anticipate malaria spikes and respond faster, potentially saving countless lives.

How RTI digitised resources to empower women in their relationships and safe use of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

Thank you so much for your efforts over the last week, it’s been truly amazing to see all the improvements and outcomes and I’ve been blown away by the efficiency and way you worked. Without your help, I can’t imagine how much further down the track a go live like this could be.
