Introducing Bluetoothtap: a new location technology from Equal Experts

As part of our dedication to finding innovative, simple solutions to complex business challenges, Equal Experts is currently involved in several joint ventures.

We’ve co-invested in several start-up businesses – offering our time, expertise, mentorship and funding to help bring exciting new ideas to fruition.

Now, one of these partnerships is bearing its first fruit in the form of a new location technology, Bluetoothtap:

O2 successfully adopted Bluetoothtap at last year’s Rugby World Cup. The platform allowed its customers to securely redeem promotions using the O2 Priority app, while O2 could easily track and log all transactions.

Unifying tap and go technology – for iOS and Android

Bluetoothtap terminals (as pictured above) offer the full ranging messaging ability of a standard BLE Beacon, as well as offering ‘tap’ functionality that is accurate up to 5cms. This opens up a whole new range of use cases for developers and retailers: voucher and product redemption, event access and registration, interactive advertising and retail displays as well as micropayment completion.

Unlike proprietary solutions like Apple Pay, Bluetoothtap works across all Android and iOS handsets – allowing retailers to offer all this to the vast majority of customers using one solution. We believe it has the potential to unify the currently fragmented location technology sector.

We’ll be demonstrating Bluetoothtap to the global technology industry at Mobile World Congress, at the end of February 2016. If you’re interested in finding out more about how the technology works – or how it could benefit your business – please drop Ed Pellew a line at epellew@equalexperts.com. Or if you’re heading to Barcelona for MWC, say hello to the Bluetoothtap team at stand 1D41 during the show.
