In this session, Dr Kevin Ong, Co-Founder, CEO and CTO of Voral.ai, and Principal AI Consultant at Equal Experts Australia, shares what really broke when AI was deployed on a live phone line handling patient calls in Australian healthcare practices.

From phantom bookings and four-second silent gaps that no unit test could catch, to race conditions where callers were simultaneously handled by multiple AI agents – this wasn’t theory, it was production reality.

Dr Kevin Ong is the Co-Founder, CEO and CTO of Voral.ai, a Melbourne-based AI healthtech startup building Liza — an AI practice management assistant that handles inbound patient calls for Australian GP and specialist clinics, integrated directly with practice management systems like Cliniko and Bp Premier.

Voral.ai is part of the ANDHealth Activate 2026 cohort — Australia’s leading digital health commercialisation program, supported by LaunchVic and the Victorian Government — and has been accepted into the NVIDIA Inception Program.

With over 15 years in data and AI engineering and a PhD in Computer Science, Kevin has spent the past year building and shipping voice AI into one of the most regulated and operationally messy environments there is: the front desk of a GP clinic.

Before Voral, Kevin was a Data and AI principal at Equal Experts and still is, where many of you will know him. Today he’s here to talk about what actually breaks when you put an AI agent on the other end of a phone line — and what the textbooks don’t tell you about latency, trust, and real patients calling in pain.
